In this week’s Sunday Suburb Spotlight, we catch up with Sales Consultant Michael Webb to get the low down on Donvale, a treed location that’s ideal for families.
What is Donvale’s main attraction?
It’s a good mix of suburbia and bushland. There are leafy streets and private acre blocks, but shops, schools and transport are all convenient. It’s easy to get to the city via the Eastern Freeway and Mitcham Train Station isn’t too far away.
What makes Donvale a great place to raise a family?
Donvale is great for families for a number of reasons. There are fantastic schools including Whitefriars and Donvale Christian College. There’s very little crime and the neighbourhood is friendly, everyone seems to know each other. It also differs from other suburbs in that you won’t necessarily find your typical family home here, there are sprawling acre properties with much larger and more luxurious homes.
Has there been any development?
A lot of Donvale can’t be developed which adds to the appeal of the area but construction has occurred around Tunstall Square with new townhouses and aged care facilities being built. Mullum Mullum Stadium has probably been the biggest development in the past 12 months. Located on Springvale Road, it caters for a wide range of sports including basketball, netball and volleyball.
Are there activities and/or community groups in the area that are suitable for elderly people to join?
Along Mitcham and Doncaster Roads there are a number of aged care facilities, retirement villages and medical centres so there’s quite a large population of older residents. There are lots of places for them to get out and about like parks, community centres and bowls clubs as well as the RSL in Doncaster East.
Is there a variety of sporting clubs/facilities that children can join/play at?
Mullum Mullum Stadium is Manningham’s newest sports facility. Donvale also has a Football Club and Cricket Club, the latter of which I am a proud sponsor of.
List four words that best describe this suburb.
Family-orientated, safe, convenient and leafy.
Where are the best places to eat out?
Tunstall Square is your best bet within Donvale. My personal favourites are Bob’s Your Uncle in Doncaster East and The Mabel in Mitcham.
