Sunday Suburb Spotlight on Doncaster East with Robert Groeneveld

In this week’s Sunday Suburb Spotlight, we catch up with Licensed Estate Agent and Auctioneer Robert Groeneveld to get the low down on Doncaster East – a family-orientated area abundant in parks.

Does Doncaster East have a certain charm that other suburbs don’t?
Doncaster East is family-orientated and the community embraces multiculturalism. The population is made up of all different ethnicities including Italians, Greeks, Persians and Chinese.

What do you believe is the suburb’s main attraction?
The main attraction is the fact that it’s quite safe and there are good schools making it an ideal choice for young families. There are fantastic parks including Ruffey Lake which has a duck pond, three playgrounds and barbeque facilities – it’s a real local treasure. Property prices are also reasonable (around the $1 million mark) considering how close it is to the city and home owners/buyers can expect steady capital growth.

Where are the best places to eat out?
You’ll find a wide variety along Doncaster Road including Zero 95 Pizza Bar and some excellent Chinese, Malaysian and Vietnamese eateries. There are popular cafes at Jackson Court but if you don’t mind venturing out of the immediate area, nearby Templestowe Village and Warrandyte have some great options.

What’s on offer for Doncaster East’s elderly residents?
There are numerous Probus and Bowls Clubs, community centres, fantastic libraries and the Manningham Council offers in-home cleaning services.

Has there been any development that has boosted the suburb’s profile?
Westfield Doncaster has undergone a massive redevelopment and is set to undergo another in the near future. This has brought a lot of people into the area.

What public transport options are there?
Doncaster East doesn’t have trains or trams, but the area is well-serviced by buses with routes to both surrounding suburbs and the CBD. There are multiple ways to reach the city including Doncaster Park+Ride where commuters can leave their car and catch a bus that goes along the Eastern Freeway or there are train services from Mitcham.
