The Labor Government has approved plans for a $500 million redevelopment at Westfield Doncaster.
In a press release, Minister for Planning Richard Wynne gave his stamp of approval with backing from the local community.
“Melbourne is already the nation’s retail capital and this major expansion will cement its reputation for years to come,” said Mr Wynne.
The upgrade will include a gateway building of up to 14 storeys, a new premium retail precinct, expanded bus interchange, improved car and pedestrian access plus additional car parking.
More than 2000 jobs in construction are expected to be created and an additional 2900 new part-time and full-time roles within the centre upon completion.
The approval paves the way for the site’s owners to lodge a Planning Permit with Manningham City Council to ensure the community’s needs are considered.
