Victoria’s property market usually experiences a seasonal slowdown as we head into winter. This year, it is predicted more properties will come to market during the cooler months as buyer appetite shows no sign of simmering down. Contrary to popular belief, winter can be a terrific time to sell as it offers vendors the chance to list their home in a less competitive market and we are likely to see a lot of hungry prospective buyers on the hunt once lockdown ends.

So, what can you do to prepare your house for sale? Walk through your house like you are a potential buyer. First impressions count so be picky and take note of anything unsightly or damaged. Then consider these simple yet effective changes:

A spring clean

Every house can do with a spring clean and if you’re thinking of selling this is particularly important. Spend time going through each room to clean and declutter the space. A spotless house makes it easier for a buyer to imagine themselves living there, rather than feeling like a guest in someone else’s home.

Try a fresh coat of paint

Consider if any rooms need a coat of paint to brighten them up. Use neutral colours, in particular whites, to allow buyers to focus on the space rather than distracting them with colour.

Swap light globes

Energy-efficient light globes are a great addition to any property but when it comes time to sell, they can make your home appear dull. Bright, light-filled rooms create a pleasant feel for buyers, so simply swapping your light globes can make a big difference to how buyers perceive your home.

Overdue gardening

A beautiful, well-kept garden can help boost the sale price of your house. Front and back gardens that are overgrown and untidy can quickly diminish a buyer’s opinion of the house and can be easily avoided. Pulling out weeds, removing dead plants, mowing the lawn, painting chipped fences, and adding colour are a few simple ways to spruce your green spaces before going to market.
